The Biggest lake in Parque nacional Lanín, with excellent views of Lanín volcano.
The road begins near Junín de los Andes, where a turning forks off to the left before a bridge over the river Chimehuín. It runs alongside this river through a wide and sparsely vegetated valley. Soon the Lanín volcano can be seen dominating the valley with a height of 3776 metres.
After 23 km the road crosses a bridge over the river Chimehuín. On the left is a small hill with a cluster of Araucaria trees, from where an incredible view of Lake Huechulafquen and the huge Lanín volcano can be seen. To the left of the bridge is the source of the river Chimehuín, a popular place for fly fishing.
A fee is charged to enter the nearby National park. The road now borders tha noerth east coast of the lake, which has restless blue waters sorrounded by steppe and speckled with red in November when the Notro shrubs flower.
